Syncrude, Spring 2024

Proveo was entrusted by Syncrude to facilitate Remote Confined Space Monitoring (RCSM) and Ventilation Services for Manachihta, our seventh major turnaround event at the Mildred Lake facility and our largest at 167 confined spaces.

Challenge: Managing 167 confined spaces required a high level of communication among Coordinators, Contractors, Process Leads, Safety, and our RCSM Technicians, ensuring everyone had the most up-to-date information to keep entrants safe.

Action: RCSM packages with 167 confined spaces deployed simultaneously on a single project.

Result:

• Overall cost savings vs traditional confined space management: 33.8%
• Reduced risk exposure hours for personnel: 73,868 hours

Takeaway: Project Manachihta marked a significant milestone for our partnership and the progression of RCSM and Ventilation. During this project, we successfully deployed 167 RCSM units across three different business units, setting a North American record for the technology. This achievement was made possible by the exceptional support from Turnaround Management, Safety Health and Environment, Supply Chain, and Logistics.
